Pattern Preview: 2026-2027 Quilt Along

Hello Friends and Welcome!

Between renovations and ongoing stitching projects, I've also started working on something new; my next quilt along pattern!

Since my term as BoM convenor for my guild has just come to an end, this will be the first year that I'm designing a pattern for myself rather than for a group!

This is both an exciting and terrifying change. Exciting because I can fully embrace my own ideas rather than attempting to adhere to what my guild mates want to work on, which I don't think I did particularly well anyway. But terrifying because, as an introvert, I'm going to have to put a little more effort into advertising.

I suppose that is a problem for later, for now, I'm excited to share a first glimpse at my upcoming pattern!

Pattern Inspiration

At this point, I'm still working on the digital draft of the pattern, so I don't have anything in fabric just yet. But I do have a lot of different sources that have inspired the design!

The biggest source has been my recent experiments with crochet!

A lot of my patterns draw inspiration from other fibre mediums, and since I've been doing so much crochet recently, I wanted to incorporate some of those traditional motifs into a quilted format!

Specifically, I was drawn to the traditional crochet Granny Square motif, which has a distinct repeating pattern that works outwards in rounds from the centre of the square!

For the block pattern, I've been playing around with the traditional Rocky Mountain Chain block for a number of years, but it's never quite fit into my past designs. But for this year's pattern, it turned out to be the perfect starting point!

I have made some changes to the block to make it fit with the crochet inspired layout, and it's created some really beautiful negative spaces!

And finally, I've been playing around with a scrappy gradient for the quilt's background!

I really love incorporating coloured gradients into my quilts, and I think it will be a really fun way of accenting the pieced blocks!

With all of that said, here's a little chunk of the pattern in progress!

It's feeling a little busy still, so is likely to change a bit before we see it in fabric, but I'm really excited about the progress I've made so far and can't wait to get back to working on it!

It's been such a fun design to play with so far and I'm really looking forward to taking these different sources of inspiration from a concept into a finished quilt!

And once I've made my way out of the drafting phase and onto the piecing, I'll be sure to share another update!
