Project Update: 30.06.2026

Hello Friends and Welcome!

After a much needed check up of my seasonal stitching goals last week, I'm feeling a lot more organized moving into the Summer months!

And while I think I was already working in line with those goals, I'm excited to take a look at my ongoing project progress and see how well they align!

My last project update was back at the beginning of the month, so I've had several weeks of stitching since then, as well as work on renovations and moving our living space from the ground floor into the basement, so I'm excited to see how everything has been progressing!

Let's take a look!

Crochet Afghan

After learning to block squares with my sister, I had fully intended to do more of them at home by myself! Unfortunately, the aforementioned move to the basement forced me to pack up a lot of my stitching and the flat surfaces needed for blocking are now being used more for storage.

I've had to postpone the blocking for a little while, but I have been able to continue crocheting duplicate squares!

The additional squares I made over the last few weeks were Killarney, Ollie, Solomon, Kruis, and Quion!

I also remade the original squares for Killarney, which was too small the first time, and Ollie, which was too big, as well as Quion, because I wanted to change up the colour placement!

Up next is the Narrawong pattern!

So far, I've crocheted two rounds, and I'm ready to do my first change of colour!

I can't wait to see how this square turns out!

My squares are based on a variety of patterns from Granny Square Flair by Shelley Husband.

Meara's Mending

After cutting and basting pieces for a few Cedar blocks, I continued working on the purple and green patch for Meara's blanket!

The block I chose finishes as a hexagon, but I was patching a rectangular space, so I needed a few partial blocks to square off the edges of my patch.

It ended up turning out really nicely!

After stitching it to the front of the blanket, I realized there's still a hole above the patch in the lilac border, so I'll need to deal with that soon too.

And though I haven't found the time to fix the back of her blanket just yet, Meara has been using it again and seems quite happy with how it's turning out!

Cedar is a pattern from the Hexie Handbook by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.

Outreach Blocks

Sometime in the Spring, one of my guilds received a donation containing a bunch of row by row kits, including all the fabric and instructions, which the outreach group has asked the members to help assemble over the Summer!

I picked up two kits at our last meeting and have started working on the first one!

The pattern is for a vertical column, featuring an applique motif of water lilies and lily pads!

The original pattern suggested using fusible applique, but I know the fusible can sometimes be a pain to quilt, so I decided to use the needle turn method instead, to help out whichever member volunteers to quilt it! I also think it will be more durable, which will be better for the recipient too!

So far, I've appliqued four big lily pads, and have begun basting pieces for the flowers! These should come together really quickly once I start piecing them, so I think I'll bring the kit with me when I visit my Mom this week!

This design is based on the Water Lilies by the Lake pattern distributed by the Wee Folks Sewing and Quilt Shoppe.

Quilt Along Pattern

In addition to my stitching, I've continued to work on the design for my upcoming quilt along pattern!

I spent a lot of time messing around with the digital mock up last week, then I needed to leave it alone to breathe for a few days.

A really common tip for making art is that, if you look at a piece for too long, you'll find yourself disliking it, so it's important to walk away for a while. When you come back, pay attention to your initial response! If it still feels bad, something needs to be changed, but if you're excited about it, then you can keep working towards your original plan!

Fortunately for me, when I took a look at the design again this morning, I was really excited and found it looking better than I'd remembered!

There are a few tiny changes to be made, but I'm almost at the point where I can start drafting my instructions!

Friends, I can't believe how much I've managed to get done with all the renovations going on around me!

It's been so much fun to catch up with these projects, and to see that I'm getting a good start on my Summer goals!
