Renovation Report: 19.05.2026

Hello Friends and Welcome Back!

After another few weeks in the new house, I thought it might be fun to take another look at the progress being made in the sewing studio!

Of course, both my husband and I were sick for two of those weeks, so there was a little while that we weren't working on the renovations at all, but it's still fun to see how far we've gone, take a look at what we're working on now, and figure out what our next steps will be!

I can't wait to share our progress!

The Work Continues

From my last update to now, there haven't been a lot of big changes to the overall appearance of the sewing studio. Instead, we've been focused on cleaning up the space and running electrical!

Our electrician friend has been a big help with this!

He ran a bunch of wiring through the attic in preparation for ceiling lights, as well as under the floor from the basement for new outlets. He also spent a lot of time testing wires and labeling our electrical panel, so we're getting a better idea of what circuits currently exist in the house!

Around this time, we got sick and needed to spend a few weeks resting before we could continue with our renovations. But now that we're feeling better, we've gotten back to work!

My husband went back to working on framing:

He added some more supports to the front hall closet, which was cut out of one corner of the sewing studio.

In the opposite corner, there was a closet that we cut out of the sewing room to use in the adjacent bedroom.

The closet (grey floor) was combined with the existing bedroom closet (beige floor) so we can have an extra large closet!

While he was doing that, I went back to cleaning up the studs.

The ceiling had previously been tiled, so there were staples and little bits of tile every couple of inches.

It's blurry, but the photo on the left gives you an idea of how much of a mess they were when I started, and the photo on the right shows the clean studs when I was done!

If you're not sure why I went through all that effort, it's because having debris between the drywall and studs can damage the drywall, causing a cracked or uneven surface, or block the screws from from screwing into the studs securely.

With all the staples removed, it will be a lot safer and easier to install the drywall when we reach that stage!

Now I just need to do the same for the wall studs, which are still full of nails from the paneling and baseboards. Hopefully those will be easier since I don't have to work over my head!

And finally, we've also ordered new windows! Those will take another few weeks to arrive, so we'll have to wait a bit to see how they turn out!

Friends, I'm so excited to see the sewing studio coming together bit by bit!

It's been a bit of work so far, with more yet to come, but I'm looking forward to getting back to work and taking the next step to transform our new house into our new home!
