Project Update: 14.07.2026

Hello Friends and Welcome!

With another few weeks of Summer gone, it feels like the season has been flying by!

I've been keeping busy with family visits and home renovations, and when the weather really heats up, I retreat to the cool basement for some restful stitching!

I can't wait to share the progress I've been making!

Crochet Afghan

In my last update, I was just getting started on my second Narrawong square, but since then, I've finished it and many more!

In the top row are Narrawong and Spike, Melbourne and Zahra are in the middle, and at the bottom are Lazarev and Radius!

I had to remake my original Lazarev square because it had been stitched too tightly and turned out way too small, and in doing so, I think I moved the colours around a little. But I love how it turned out!

I also remade one of my Solomon squares, which I showed last week, in a different colour scheme!

For this project, I've been using four colours of yarn; gold, coral, burgundy, and an ultra pale blue.

Each square contains three of those colours, and I've been doing my best to crochet an equal number in each colour scheme, but I noticed I had too many gold/coral/burgundy squares and not enough coral/burgundy/blue squares, so I wanted to even things out!

After that, I got started on a few more duplicate squares!

The next group included Bismark, Posy, and an altered version of Sol!

Unfortunately, my Posy blocks refuse to sit flat. I'm not sure if this will be fixed with blocking or if I'll have to leave this square out of my finished afghan, which wouldn't be a problem since there's lots of patterns to choose from!

Please let me know what you think I should do!

At this point, I'm between squares, but I'm looking forward to working on Traverse next!

My squares are based on a variety of patterns from Granny Square Flair by Shelley Husband.

Outreach Blocks

After cutting and basting all of the shapes needed for the Water Lilies by the Lake row, I was excited to start piecing together some lily flowers!

I don't think it's the traditional way of assembling applique patterns, but I typically like to assemble my basted applique shapes into a unit, then stitch the pieced unit onto the background fabric.

Here's an example of what I mean:

The basted petals are sewn to each other to create a flower, then I applique the completed flower as a single shape!

So far, I've appliqued about half of the lilies in the row, including a fun dragonfly embroidery patch that was included in the kit!

I have two more large flowers, three smaller ones, and a handful of small lily pads left to stitch on before the row will be completed and ready to return to the quilt guild at our September meeting!

I can't wait to see how the row will turn out!

This design is based on the Water Lilies by the Lake pattern distributed by the Wee Folks Sewing and Quilt Shoppe.

Quilt Along Pattern

After a few small changes to the background colour placement, I'm really happy with how my quilt along pattern design looks!

My next step will be writing and editing the instructions, then I'll be able to get started on stitching!

I'm not sure I'll be able to get all of that done in the next three weeks, but I guess we won't know until I try!

Though it's only been two weeks since my last update, I feel like I've accomplished quilt a bit!

I can't wait to get back to stitching and find out what progress I'll make in the weeks to come!
