Renovation Report: 07.07.2026

Hello Friends and Welcome Back!

After another month of progress, I'm excited to share a new update on our renovations!

Since we have several rooms in progress simultaneously, the sewing studio will sometimes sit unchanged for a few weeks at a time. But over the weekend, we made some exciting progress that I can't wait to share!

Let's take a look!

Filling in the Walls

After replacing the window at the beginning of June, we were able to finish the electrical in that wall, which is where I'll be getting power for my sewing set up!

Once that had been run, we could replace the insulation and seal it behind plastic to really keep the outside weather out and the inside temperatures in!

With that wall sorted, there was one final amenity needed; the air return!

I learned that this is normally placed on the wall opposite to the window so air can be drawn across the room to help with temperature control! We couldn't put ours on the opposite wall because it sits on a structural beam that we wouldn't want to weaken by drilling a hole through, so we put it on an adjacent wall instead!

With all of this work, I'm optimistic this sewing studio will have a much more controlled temperature than the one at our previous house!

The even bigger change is one I wasn't home to see come together; drywall!

I was away visiting my Mom for her birthday, so it was really exciting to come home and see the sewing studio looking almost like a finished room!

The photo above shows the view from the door when entering the room. This is the wall where mine and my husband's computer desks will be set up!

Below, you can see the actual sewing space!

The cutting and machine tables will be set up under the window where there will be lots of natural light! We also have plans to build shelves against the opposite wall so I'll have lots of storage!

Somehow, the bare drywall has made the room feel so much smaller, but I noticed when we moved in that furniture helps to make the space feel a lot bigger! I'm looking forward to seeing how the studio will turn out!

It's been so exciting to see the room slowly creeping closer to completion and to imagine all the things I'll be able to create there one day!

The next step will be mudding over the seams and screws in the drywall to make a clean, smooth surface! Unfortunately, I think it will be at least another few weeks before we are able to get to that. We'll have to wait and see!
