Hello Friends and Welcome Back!

After several weeks of hot and humid weather, a cool breeze has finally blown through, bringing some respite from the heat. Unfortunately, that breeze is also carrying smoke from some of the fires from other parts of the province, so the world is feeling a little hazy and grey.

Altogether, not the best news, but the cooler temperatures are certainly more conducive to sewing!

And with this change, I've been feeling much more inspired to work on several of my ongoing projects and have been quite productive in doing so!

Hexie Harvest BoM

As with every month so far, May brought two sets of hexie blocks; Caspian and Valentia. In my last update, I had finished all seven of my Valentia blocks and five of Caspian.

Since then, I've finished the remaining Caspian blocks an have moved on to the June blocks!

For these new blocks, I'm back to using rainbow colours again and am so excited to be doing so!

The first block I've started is called Lilly Pilly, it uses a combination of small diamonds and jewel shapes to make this interesting floral motif! I love how it looks in both the all black and the rainbow variations and am excited to finish the rest of them!

The other June block is called Honeydew. It uses the same set of shapes but in a different orientation, which creates a totally different pattern! I can't wait to share it once I've made one!

The Hexie Harvest pattern was designed by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth. It is currently running as a block of the month style quilt along which is planned to wrap up in Autumn 2023.

Chilhowie Mystery Quilt

Although the quilt along ended many months ago, I've been working on my quilt slowly and at my own pace. And after many weeks without progress, I've recently finished clue no.6 of the Chilhowie quilt along!

This means I've finished piecing all of the blocks needed for this quilt, leaving me with just the sashing left to piece!

The next clue, clue no.7, will involve piecing those sashing strips and assembling the finished quilt top, but since I'm planning to use the quilt as you go method for this pattern, I won't be getting to that clue just yet.

I'm excited to get these blocks quilted soon!

Chilhowie was designed by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville. It ran as a mystery quilt along from November 2022 to January 2023.

Meadow Mystery Quilt

Continuing my experiments with quilt as you go, I've been working on Meadow Mystery as well!

I've been working on this in a log cabin piecing style; starting with the centre block and adding a row onto each adjacent side, slowly working my way around the quilt. At this point, my quilt is a 3x4 block rectangle, and I love how it's turning out!

It's so exciting to see the quilt grow every time I add a new row! The blocks needed for the next row haven't been quilted yet, but I imagine I'll be getting to that soon!

The Meadow Mystery pattern was designed by Cheryl Brickley of Meadow Mist Designs. It ran as a mystery quilt along on her blog in 2016-2017, then by my guild in 2021-2022.

With that Friends, I'm excited to get back to work on each of these different projects! And I would love to hear about what you've been working on too!

Please share your stories in the comments below, with me via email, or on Instagram by tagging me @v.a.fibre.arts! I always find the work of others to be so inspiring, whether it uses fibre mediums or something totally different!

I can't wait to see what we will make together next!

Until Next Time Friends, Keep Creating!
