Hello Friends and Welcome!
Last week, I took a little unplanned break. I had been at a family wedding over the weekend and, while I was away, Meara developed a sinus infection, so the week was a little more exhausting than I'd expected.
Regardless, I was able to find time to get a little bit of stitching done and worked on a few different projects, so let's take a look!
Ice Cream Soda
After my previous update, I continued working on the two blocks I had already started. For both, I wanted to use the third round to add some contrast to the block palette, but also wanted a print that related to those used in the previous two rounds.
For the first block, I chose a black and grey print, drawing on the black and grey from the plaid central print. And for the other block, the first two rounds were really busy, so I went for a quieter, yellow print that draws on the yellow flowers in the earlier rounds.

And I really love how they turned out! The contrasting third rounds add emphasis to each blocks and were the perfect way to finish them off!
After finishing those, I wanted to try creating a totally different effect in my next few blocks; a gradient!

For one block, I worked on a warm, gold to white gradient, and for the other, I did a cooler, white to black gradient. Not only did this encourage me to pair fabrics I wouldn't have otherwise tried, but it also created a really beautiful effect!
With those blocks complete, I was excited to jump into my next set!
For these next four, I just wanted to play around with some different colour and print combinations. It was nice to not have any particular rule to follow and just have fun putting together some fabrics that I like!

With everything I've learned about fabric combinations over the past few months, these blocks came together in some really beautiful and interesting ways that I might not have thought of when I first started the Ice Cream Soda quilt back in February!
It's been such an exciting experience to work on this quilt and I can't wait to make more blocks in the weeks and months to come!
The Ice Cream Soda pattern was designed by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.
Along with Ice Cream Soda, I've been working on a few other projects, specifically my shorts pattern and upcoming quilt along pattern. Both of these are still in the drafting phase, so they aren't quite ready to be shown off, but I'm excited to share them when they are!
In the meantime, I'm hoping to get a little more active again on social media and start sharing more progress there! Please visit me on Instagram to see what I'm working on between posts!
And I always love seeing what you're working on as well! You can tag me in your own posts, share stories in the comments here on the blog, or send me an email! I love seeing beautiful fibre arts and learning about other creative mediums by talking with passionate creators!
