Hello Friends and Welcome Back!
Since returning from my visit with my Grandma, I've been doing my best to get back into my usual schedule, though I'm not sure I've been terribly successful.
Following many weeks of rain, some warmer, more humid weather has rolled in, leaving me feeling lethargic and forgetful. This hasn't inspired much in the way of quilting, sewing, or anything else terribly productive.
To counteract this slump I find myself stuck in, I've decided to share a Project Update! I'm hoping that a proper look at what I've truly accomplished will inspire me to jump back into these projects!
So Friends, let's take a look!
Hexie Harvest BoM
Last month's Aster block really excited and inspired me!

I loved the bright rainbow colours and intricate piecing in this block and put all seven of them together in under a week!
After waiting out the rest of the month, May brought two new blocks; Valentia and Caspian. These two blocks are both quite simple and with relatively few pieces, Valentia especially, come together quite quickly!
I finished all seven Valentia blocks earlier in the month, while I was still with my Grandma.

Each block has only two pieces, so I decided to make them all black background blocks. I matched some of my busier prints with solid and semi solid fabrics to create contrast and interest in the block without them becoming too chaotic. I think this turned out really well and I'm quite happy with how they all turned out!
The second block, Caspian, is a little more detailed; it features a central diamond shape with half hexies and smaller diamonds filling out the edges of the block.

Initially, I saw this as another background block, so I cut all the pieces from black fabric. But as I worked on the blocks, I realized it would have actually worked just as well as a rainbow block!

I've already cut and basted all the pieced for black Caspian blocks, and I've finished assembling five of them, so I won't be making any rainbow Caspians at this point, but I am left to wonder if I would have made fast progress on this month's blocks if I'd had a wider, more exciting range of colours to work with?
Aster, Valentia, and Caspian are all a part of the Hexie Harvest quilt along currently being run by designer Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.
Meadow Mystery Quilt
Aside from piecing Hexie Harvest, I've also been making some quilting progress on my Meadow Mystery quilt!
I currently have twelve blocks completely quilted with an additional four in progress!

Quilting these blocks does take a little bit of time with all the prep that needs to be done; basting the layers, switching my machine foot and needle, and marking quilting lines, but it definitely produces a very worthwhile result and I'm so happy with how the blocks are coming together!
I've been so excited to see the blocks finished that I've even started to put a few together!

I have a 2x2 section of the quilt centre pieced, which has given me a really good indication of how the rest of the quilt might look soon!
I shared my process for this style of quilt as you go assembly a few weeks ago if you're interested to learn more!
Meadow Mystery was a mystery quilt pattern designed by Cheryl Brickley of Meadow Mist Designs.
With only two projects to share, this may seem like a very short and unproductive project update, but Friends, I'm so happy with the work I've done on both an I genuinely do feel much more inspired to get back to working on them!
And I would love to see what you've been working on as well! Please share stories and photos with me in the comments below, by email, or reach out to me on Instagram @v.a.fibre.arts! Seeing your work and hearing your stories always inspires me in my own projects!
I can't wait to see what we continue to make together!
