Hello Friends and Welcome!
August has been an unexpectedly busy month for me!
Though the busyness is good, it has been taking time away from stitching and from sharing my projects with all of you. So thank you all for your patience and I'm looking forward to sharing more about what non-sewing activities I've been up to soon!
And though my stitching may have slowed down somewhat, I have still managed to make a little progress on a few of my ongoing quilt projects! Let's take a look!
Ice Cream Soda Quilt
After completely piecing the rightmost third of my Ice Cream Soda quilt top, I've returned to the left side to continue piecing that!
I left off in May with that third of the quilt in two chunks and about half the piecing completed:

It's been really dry since then, so it's nice to look back at the pictures and see how green our lawn used to be! Luckily, we have some rain forecast for later today, which I'm sure the plants will enjoy!
But back to quilting; I started off piecing this third of the quilt top in long strips, but made the right third in chunks. I found I preferred that method of piecing, so I've changed to doing it that way!
For the upper left corner, this change was easy since it's already more of a chunk than a strip!
I stitched three more blocks down the right side of the chunk and added joining pieces along the bottom edge to complete it!
Once I was happy with that chunk, I moved on to piecing the lower left chunk!
Technically, the chunk is sideways in these pictures, with the bottom edge facing to the right, but it fits the shape of the photo better in this orientation.
I added two more blocks and their joining shapes to the lower left chunk, making it a bit of a strange shape, though certainly not a strip anymore!
Finally, I moved on to piecing the central chunk of the leftmost side of my Ice Cream Soda quilt!

This is the first of eight blocks that will make up the central chunk. I'm still working my way around the block adding joining shapes, but it won't take long to finish this process and I'm excited to connect it to another block soon!
With so much progress already made, every new block is another exciting step towards the completion of my Ice Cream Soda quilt! I can't wait to see how this third looks when completed!
My Ice Cream Soda quilt is based on a design by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.
The Generations Quilt Project
The other project I've found time to work on is the Generations Quilt!
I cut a selection of pink and yellow background squares last month and was excited to see how they'd look with my Six Pointed Stars!

I appliqued four stars, completing an additional four blocks and bringing my total number of Six Pointed Star blocks up to 28!
With those finished, I wanted to work on a few Dresden Plate blocks too!

I cut and marked enough petal shapes to make six more Dresden Plate applique shapes and have begun piecing them together into groups of four!
For a shape like the Dresden Plate, which has sixteen pieces in each finished applique, I've found that piecing it in quarters makes it feel more manageable, and reduces the possibility of miscounting the petals and adding too many or too few by mistake!
So far, I've pieced eight of these quarter groupings, enough for two Dresden Plates! I'm looking forward to continuing to piece these blocks and to seeing how they look when finally combined with all four generations!
My Generations Quilt is based on the traditional Dresden Plate and Six Pointed Star blocks, using templates drafted by Valerie Anne.
Knowing how busy I've been, it's not surprising I've only worked on two projects over the last couple of weeks. Even so, I've gotten quite a bit more stitching done than I expected!
And as my stitching progresses, I hope to do a better job of sharing updates with you all here on the blog and on Instagram! I hope all of you will do the same, sharing updates on your ongoing creative projects with me!
In the meantime, I have to return to the busyness of life!
