Hello Friends and Welcome!
Last week, I spent some time visiting with family! My sister was on vacation for the week and my Mom is retired, so we planned a few outings and ended the week with a family birthday party!
In particular, I really enjoyed the performance of Anne of Green Gables that we went to see in Stratford! The play was told from the perspective of a book club reading through the story, and really emphasized the power of imagination as a tool for eliciting change in one's life! Of course, there were a few unexpected twists that made this performance unique, but I don't want to spoil those for anyone who might be planning to see the play themselves!
Of course, between events I found time to do some stitching as well and am really happy with the progress I've made on my Ice Cream Soda quilt, as well as my other projects!
I can't wait to show you all what I've been working on!
Ice Cream Soda Quilt
After preparing some new joining triangles and diamonds, I've started assembling the right side of my Ice Cream Soda quilt!
I started in the lower right corner, the white corner of the quilt, joining together four full blocks and one half!

This corner includes one of my favourite blocks in this quilt; the one with the sunflower in the centre! That block was an experiment in fussy cutting and I really love how it turned out!
Since I'm using several different but similar solids for the joining pieces, I want to be sure I have a good mix of them across the whole quilt, so after piecing that corner, I decided to move on to piecing the upper right corner!

This corner has my black blocks, so it was a big visual change from the white ones, but just as fun to put together!
There's still quite a bit of work before these corners will be joined together to form the full right side of the quilt, but I'm looking forward to continuing my progress soon!
My Ice Cream Soda quilt is based on a design by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.
The Generations Quilt Project
My other hand piecing project hasn't made quite as much progress as Ice Cream Soda, but I've managed a few more stitches!
While putting away the last few Dresden Plate blocks I made in my Grandma's style, I realized I had forgotten to initial them, so I embroidered those onto the block corners.

For anyone who has forgotten, I've been marking any blocks I've made for my Grandma with my initials so we know which ones were made by her and which were made by me. This way, we'll be sure that each of the finished quilts has at least one authentic Grandma block and it true to the inter generational nature of this project!
As for my own blocks, I haven't done any new stitching, but I have prepared a few more background squares!

I've been cutting my squares a few inches larger than I expect them to finish to allow for a bit of warping during applique. That way, we can trim them down to the correct size later and they wont already be too small!
I also use a hot iron to press an X through the middle of each block to help position my applique shape as close to centred as I can get it, giving me an even amount of background fabric around all sides of the applique!
With all these bright and beautiful backgrounds before me, I'm really looking forward to getting some Stars appliqued soon!
My Generations Quilt is based on the traditional Dresden Plate and Six Pointed Star blocks, using templates drafted by Valerie Anne.
Meadow Mystery Quilt
After so much piecing progress, it's exciting to be able to share a little quilting update!

I've continued working on Meadow Mystery and have now joined the final row of full sized blocks to the rest of the quilt!
This brings the quilt up to 5x5 blocks, and leaves me with just the half-sized border blocks to quilt and join!

I don't want to get too ahead of myself and start speculating on when I may have this quilt finished, but every stitch brings me closer to that reality and I'm excited to have an opportunity to try out my label stencils in the near future!
My Meadow Mystery quilt is based on a design by Cheryl Brickley of Meadow Mist Designs.
Quilt Along Pattern
The final Summer project I've been working on is the sample quilt for my upcoming quilt along!

I've assembled just a few of the units I'll need to make the pattern and am happy to say I haven't had to make any changes to the instructions so far!
I can't wait to share more about this pattern in September!
Friends, that's all my stitching progress for now!
I'm really proud to have worked on four different projects in the last few weeks, though some have progressed more than others, and I hope you've all enjoyed a look at these ongoing quilts!
I would love to hear about what you've been working on as well! Please share stories in the comments below or send me an email to chat privately! You can also tag me on your posts on Instagram or message me there with updates! I'm always so inspired to see what all of you are working on!
And now, I can't wait to get back to stitching!
