Hello Friends and Welcome Back!

As the months have passed, I've felt this Summer has been full of short, secretive updates and the occasional missed post.

I really do find it much more interesting and exciting to share the projects I've been working on, so this week's update is a special treat for me to be able to write!

Although pattern writing has occupied most of my time, I have made a little progress on my Ice Cream Soda quilt in the intervening moments!

Ice Cream Soda

With so little time to work on it, I've only gotten started on two new blocks. Both of these were inspired by a block I made earlier in the Summer:

This block used the remnants of a particularly busy print in both the first and second rounds, and a plainer, high contrast print in the third round. The plain third round, and little touch of fussy cutting to form a yellow flower at the block centre add a bit of organization to the otherwise chaotic block.

The original purpose of this block was to use up the oddly shaped remains of a fat quarter that had been excessively fussy cut, and I have others in that same situation.

This is the first one:

I've already pieced together the first two rounds and am working on choosing a print for the third round!

The first block I made used a contrasting print for the third round, so I could use a black print. Though it contrasts, the dark colour is reflected in the stripes of the bees in the inner print. But, I am also drawn to the clean vibrance of the white print, which is reflected in the background linework of the inner print.

I'm not sure I'm ready to decide on one print or the other just yet, so I got started on another block while I think about it!

This one is a little more organized than the previous block so far. It has a bit of fussy cutting in the first round, forming a grey flower at the block centre, and features three large yellow flowers spaced evenly around the perimeter.

I haven't cut the pieces for the second round just yet, but I'm planning to use the same print as the first round. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Ice Cream Soda was designed by Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth.

Block of the Month

And since my upcoming quilt along pattern has been taking up a lot of my time, I thought I'd share another sneak peak at what I'm working on!

I bought the fabric for this project a few weeks ago and am really happy with the colour selection! So far, the pieces are coming together beautifully and I can't wait to continue piecing!

Although I haven't had a lot to share this week, it's felt like so much more than I've been able to in many of my recent posts! And covering fewer different blocks has allowed me to share a lot more of my process and thoughts, which has been so much fun!

And I'd really like to hear your thoughts too! Let me know which of my third round fabrics you prefer for my Ice Cream Soda blocks and your thoughts on the fabric I'm using for my next quilt along sample!

And of course, I'm excited to hear about your ongoing projects too! Please share those with me in the comments, by email, or by tagging me on Instagram!

Until Next Time Friends, Keep Creating!
